Disappointed Campers Receive A Surprise Shipment

As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded, Fort Wilderness, a Christian camp in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, had to make some very difficult decisions. Through a video, they shared with 240 kids the hard news that all youth camps would be cancelled for the summer of 2020.

Emails and comments on Facebook and Instagram flooded in as disappointed kids shared how hard it was to receive the news – Fort is a place where kids get to be kids! They are shown love and experience adventure in God’s creation. The disappointment was heavy.

In June, each camper received an email with a surprise. Fort would be shipping out a special box to every camper, even though they had been refunded 100% of their camp fee. The box would contain devotionals, crafts, activities and some cool gifts for not just one person, but two! This way the camper could experience their “Fort at Home” box with a friend or sibling.

Youth all over Wisconsin and beyond have a package showing up to brighten their summer!

One camper’s mom sent this note to Fort:
“Emma received the box of love from Fort and had a friend over and worked on some of the items from the box with her. It has meant the world to her! To know she is loved from afar by you all at Fort is an incredible example of the far-reaching arms of God!”

It took faith and a lot of work to send these boxes during a physically and financially trying time, but it was the right decision to minister to the youth as God has called Fort to do. The joy from Emma and other campers sharing their experiences is an incredible encouragement for the missionaries who serve at Fort.

Fort Wilderness is a year-round not for profit Christian camp (“family”) founded in 1956 by Truman Robertson. Each year, over 8,000 people come to Fort to connect, have fun, eat well, learn about God and to be recharged.
