It used to be that the options for non-drinkers were limited to soda, juice or water. Not exactly a recipe for a fun night out. But today, more people and establishments are embracing mocktails.
With festive options for every occasion and craving, it’s easy to see why they’re all the rage. Combining the artistry and complexity of a craft cocktail without the alcohol content, even those who don’t abstain will be tempted to give them a try.
It probably comes as no surprise that our mocktail of choice features lemonade. Bold and tart, it’s the perfect base to layer on more complex flavors. If you want to dip your toes into the mocktails, check out these tips to craft your own alcohol-free masterpiece.
Ingredients
Lemonade (homemade or store-bought)
Seltzer water
A variety of fresh fruit juices (strawberries, blueberries, watermelon, cucumber, pineapple, etc.)
A variety of fresh herbs (basil, mint, lavender, rosemary, ginger, etc.)
Lemon slices for garnish
Ice
Directions
Gently muddle your herb(s) of choice in the bottom of a glass. Add ice followed by a ½ cup of lemonade and a ¼ cup of fruit juice. Top it off with a ¼ cup of seltzer water and stir the mixture together. Garnish with a lemon slice and a sprig of whatever herb you used to make the drink.
