Sail into Summer with These Yacht Rock Classics
Contributed by: Aimee, Share Lemonade
The lapping of waves. The snapping of sails. The rocking of a boat. We’re talking about yacht rock, folks.
Nothing quite goes with a warm summer day like the smooth sounds of yacht rock, a popular genre of soft rock from the mid-70s and early 80s. The West Coast sound before Snoop and Dre, its mellow grooves and dreamy vibes are practically a vacation in music form. And, let’s face it, any genre that includes TOTO’s “Africa” has got to be alright.
Is it cheesy? Yes. Is it schlocky? Of course. But once you give in to the kitsch, it’s a veritable guilty pleasure cruise.
So, what better way sail into summer than with a collection of yacht rock classics?
