As a construction company, it may be unique that one of CG Schmidt’s core values is ‘caring’. The fact is, yes, we build really cool buildings, AND we also develop deep partnerships with our clients. It’s one thing to say that we do these things, it’s another to truly live them… especially during a pandemic. Our employees are consistently illustrating the fact that Caring is not just a core value, but deeply ingrained in our culture. At the beginning of the Safer at Home order, as soon as construction was deemed an essential business, two CG Schmidt employees – Aaron Smith and Jordan Albrecht – felt the need to help those who had been adversely affected by the Coronavirus. Quickly, they started a food drive at the jobsite for the families of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School students, who were facing unemployment or furlough due to COVID-19. Within a few days, the food donations piled up from team members, subcontractors, suppliers and other partners. “We wanted to find a way to help those near us, who may be struggling right now,” stated Aaron Smith, CG Schmidt Superintendent. “We know this is a difficult time for many, and we’re happy to help Cristo Rey Jesuit students and their families in a small way,” said Jordan Albrecht, Project Manager.
Over a period of 3 weeks, 2 large donations were made from the jobsite food drive to assist Cristo Rey Jesuit students and families. Andrew Stith, Cristo Rey Jesuit President noted, “In addition to building a new school for our students which will open this fall, your donation means so much to the families that have been so negatively impacted by the Coronavirus. The thoughtfulness and kindness of all those on the work site is truly amazing. I know this additional food will mean much to Cristo Rey Jesuit families. During uncertain and stressful times like these, it is truly humbling to experience the generosity of others and feel the sense of community.”
