Ozaukee County started a Facebook group called “Local Menus For Takeout & Delivery in Ozaukee Co Area”. It was started by a small business owner to help keep our community thriving during this epidemic. The creator of this page, Tonia Alberry Matha, took it upon herself to match small businesses that are considered essential with those that had to close their doors due to Covid-19.

My business, Lake Shore Dance, was the recipient of one of these pairings. We were paired up with New Fortune Asian Cuisine. They pledged to donate 20% of their sales from an evening to our organization. The response from our community was overwhelming! People came from over 30 minutes away for takeout to support this cause.

Because of the pandemic, New Fortune had to limit their hours to 4 to 9pm, Tuesday through Sunday. In just three hours, they had to stop taking orders because they were at the point they could not keep up, and wait times were far beyond what was reasonable to accommodate .

In this day of so much negativity, when so many businesses have been forced to close their doors, and so much hatred has been shown to Asians in the United States, it was so good to see our community come together to support one another.
